Here is a summary of what you can expect at your Eye Care Appointment.
Auto-Refractor: This instrument gives the doctor a preliminary prescription and curvature of your eyes.
Retinal Camera: Gives the doctor an inside view of the retina including the Optic Nerve, Macula, and Blood Vessels.
This instrument is invaluable in early detection of not only eye disease but many systemic ones as well. This important photo of the fundus of your eye should be taken at every visit. This instrument aids in the detection of retinal diseases.
Automated Visual Field: If needed, the doctor can examine your side vision to monitor the progression of eye diseases such as glaucoma, retinitis pigmentosa, diagnose neurological problems, and as a routine screening tool.
Color vision test: Especially important for a child's first eye care visit to determine color vision blindness or deficiencies.
Stereo test: This is to assess your binocular vision and how the eyes work as a unit.
Pupils: Pupil examination with a light to rule out many neurological conditions.
Phoropter: This is a specialized instrument that the doctor uses to assess your prescription, binocular function of your eyes, phoria testing and vergence testing (how the eyes work together). There are literally thousands of prescription combinations.
Slit Lamp: This instrument is used to examine the front, middle and back of your eye. It is used to detect countless conditions such as cataracts, corneal problems, and glaucoma to name a few.
Slit lamp with specialized lenses: To examine the optic nerve, retina, blood vessels, and vitreous.
Dilated eye exam using the Binocular Indirect Ophthalmoscope to get an in-depth view of the entire retina and can detect vitreal problems, retinal detachments, view a cataract better than an undilated exam and detect retinal neoplasms to name a few. A dilated eye exam is the ONLY way to see ALL the structures inside your eye in a clear and concise manner so that nothing is missed. Dilated eye exams are recommended when Dr. Najjar deems them necessary, and he will discuss this important test with you. Dr. Najjar strives to provide the best Eye Care in Centennial.
Drop free eye exams do NOT look at the entire internal structures of the eye. This can miss choroidal/retinal tumors, retinal holes, vitreous detachments, peripheral and central cataracts, and many other issues. Some patient's pupils are simply too miotic (tiny) to be able to see the structures inside the eye clearly. In addition to the general population, a dilated/cycloplegic eye exam in a young person or child is instrumental in diagnosing accommodations issues, and understanding why a child might be experiencing eye strain, headaches, and rechecking the Rx.
As stated above, Pro Vision Eyecare does utilize retinal imaging/photo, and it is very important at every eye exam, but we don't want patients to be under the false impression that a retinal photo replaces a dilated eye exam. The doctor will explain when a dilated eye exam is indicated.
Goldman Tonometry checks the Eye pressure inside your eye to check for glaucoma. The Goldman Tonometry is the most accurate measure of the pressure inside your eyes. Eye puff (non contact tonometry) and other tonometry measurements are not as accurate. The goldman tonometer is the most accurate method in monitoring glaucoma.
A general observation of your eyes is also conducted to check for amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (eye turns), accommodation, convergence, and divergence.
Phoria and vergence testing to check for eye deviations and how your eyes work together.
Corneal topography: To diagnose keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, ectasia (corneal thinning) and others.
The eyes are truly the windows to your general health, and a complete yearly eye care appointment is essential to preserving your vision and monitoring or detecting new systemic conditions that might be apparent in the examination of your eyes.

We will help you choose the best pair of eyeglasses for your needs. Contact Lens Policies:
Contact Lenses have an expiration date just like medication, are regulated by the FDA and require a valid prescription.
The expiration date never goes over one year from the date of the exam. The doctor can expire it in less than one year if there are any corneal health concerns or other factors.
If the prescription is close to being expired, the patient cannot order more supply than what will get them to their next appointment date. We can provide you with a diagnostic lens to get you to your appointment date if needed. This cost is $20 per pair and is the dispensing fee.
Contact lens fitting charges are billed every year. If there are no changes to your RX then the doctor will advise you and there might be a reduced fee. You will receive a diagnostic lens at no charge as your fitting/evaluation lens.
Contact Lenses are regulated because improper wear, cleaning, storing or neglecting regular check ups can lead to corneal ulcers and even loss of vision. Therefore it is vital that your corneas and contact lenses are checked yearly as part of your contact lens fitting or evaluation. In addition to your contact lens fitting, a comprehensive exam as well as retinal screening with a retinal camera are done. This also includes a glasses RX and all the necessary eye health testing needed.
As a courtesy to our patients, we match online retailers for contact lens prices. These prices can further be reduced by ordering a year supply which has no shipping cost and many brands have a mail and rebate for a one year supply. Also when ordering through our office, you can be confident that your contact lenses are coming from a distributor in the United States that orders directly from the manufacturer. We don't know where your lenses are coming from when purchasing online and therefore cannot guarantee that you are getting the same brand prescribed by your doctor.
